BALSAM — Doris Aiken Coggins went to be with her Lord on May 1, 2014.
The daughter of John and Margaret Aiken, she was born on April 22, 1941, in Glenville. She attended the Culinary Institute of America in Poughkeepsie, New York, and Southwestern Technical Institute. She retired from CJ Harris Hospital. She was a faithful Christian and member of Balsam Baptist Church.
She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Hayes Coggins; her four children, Donald Coggins, and his wife, Susie, of Sylva, Kathy Smith, and her husband, Jerry, of Waynesville, Ron Coggins, and his wife, Wanda, of Balsam, and Tim Coggins and his wife, Vicki, of Augusta, Georgia. She was “Nanny” to nine grandchildren and their spouses, eight great-grandchildren and her caregiver, Melissa Thompson.
A celebration of Doris’s life will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 3, at Balsam Baptist Church with the Revs. Mike Farmer and Johnny Swanger officiating. Burial will be in Balsam Baptist Church Cemetery. A gathering of family and friends will be from 1:30 to 3 p.m. prior to services at the church.
