Dorothy ‘Dot’ Williams
Candler — Dorothy “Dot” Williams, 87, of Candler, died Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013 in Onslow County.
She was born April 27, 1926 in Waynesville to the late Eugenia Bolden and James Alfred McClure. She graduated from Waynesville Township High School in 1943. Dot was married to the late Joseph Howell Welch and Clarence “Cub” Williams. She was also preceded in death by sisters Julia Mae Scruggs and Lois Jones; a son, Joseph Randall “Randy” Welch; and great-grandson, Joseph Daniel Rogers.
She is survived by sisters Ruth Margaret Ruff and Sarah Catherine Morgan; daughter, Deborah Lynne Linch, of the home; sons, Robert Julius Welch of Columbus, Georgia and James Boyd Welch of Burleson, Texas; and six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and many loving nieces and nephews she loved dearly.
She tried to live life to the fullest through canoeing, hot air ballooning, and, at 87 years, loved to sky dive. She was a wonderful sister, excellent mother and a beloved, caring grandmother. She will be sorely missed and treasured in all of her family and friends’ hearts until they are with her again.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5 at Garrett Hillcrest Cemetery in Waynesville. A reception will be held following the service at the home in Candler for anyone who would like to join.
