WAYNESVILLE — Mrs. Dorothy Lorena Gaddis Phillips, 82, of Waynesville, passed away at her home Sept. 17, 2012. She was born in Haywood County to the late Charles Hosie and Cora Lee Carver Gaddis. She graduated in 1948 from Waynesville Township High School and married the love of her life, Johnny Phillips, in 1949. She worked for a number of years at Wellco before staying at home to raise their four children while Johnny worked at Garrett Funeral Home, Wellco and Dayco. Dot spent countless hours volunteering her time and talent at the VFW and helping Johnny with the countless other organizations they were involved in.  She was predeceased in death by  her parents and her husband, Johnny.

Survivors include her two sons, Charles “Danny” Phillips, of Asheville, and Edward Jackson “Jack” Phillips, and his wife, Robin of Rock Hill, South Carolina; two daughters, Pamela Phillips Leach, of San Antonio, Texas, and Vicki Phillips Howard, of Waynesville; four grandchildren, Emily, and her husband, Michael Talley, John Leach and his wife, Missee, Peter Leach, and his wife, Felicia, and Amanda Phillips; five great- grandchildren, Matthew and Alyssa Leach, Dillan and Mason Talley, Jacob Alexander Leach and her granddog, “Manny.”

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19, in the chapel of Garrett Funeral Home. The Rev. Bobby Rogers will officiate. The family will receive friends from 9:30  a.m. until the hour of the funeral.  Dot will be laid to rest beside the love of her life, beneath the crosses, at Garrett Hillcrest Memorial Park.
