Douglas 'Keith' Gibson
Loving Husband, Father
WAYNESVILLE — Douglas “Keith” Gibson, 73, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Dec. 16, 2013, surrounded by his loving family. Keith was born April 8, 1940, to the late Albert Gibson, Sr. and Fannie Sherrill Gibson.
Keith is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Ollie Evans Gibson; one son, Jeff Gibson and his wife, Dana; one daughter, Darris G. Moody and her husband Chuck; and one granddaughter, Lydia Moody.
He was of the Baptist faith, serving in several Haywood County churches as pianist, organist, minister of music, teacher and deacon. His singing and playing was recorded on many albums and CDs of choirs and singing groups, particularly the family group known as “The Sanctuaries.” He also wrote several songs recorded by the family group.
Keith earned his BSBA degree in 1995 from WCU in Finance, followed by further studies at Liberty University and Newburgh Theological Seminary in 2009, earning two Ph.D’s and his Th.D in Biblical Studies. Keith also authored two books, “Isaiah-The Name, The Man, The Prophecy” and one that is in the process of being published on the subject of “Eschatology.”
Keith was a land surveyor, real estate broker, commercial appraiser; and the owner of Suncrest Realty and Appraisal Service in Waynesville.
His love and servant hood for the Lord, his family, and all the many people he came in contact with was a daily inspiration. He will be greatly missed. What a legacy he leaves.
A private funeral service was held with the Revs. Wayne Carson, Jerry Nelson, and Dr. Roy Kilby officiating. Entombment followed in the mausoleum of Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park.
