About 25 members of Allens Creek Baptist Church in Waynesville are active in the church’s drive-through prayer ministry.

The members are full of cheer, and several sit each Saturday in the church’s parking lot, waving at drivers as they pass by. If someone stops, the group talks with them about their prayer needs, and will pray with them on the spot — or take down their prayer request and pray for the person’s needs later.

“If one person comes through on a Saturday, it’s worth it,” said ministry member and leader Carolyn Medford. “As many as 10 have come through on a day, but we always have at least one.”

A prayer chain meets at the church on a regular basis. Debbie Hyatt is credited with bringing the ministry to the church. In addition Linda Webb organizes the faith visitation program in which church members visit area residents, inviting them to come to the church and visiting the sick and shut-ins.

Eddie Dietz is the pastor of Allens Creek Baptist Church. The church is at 549 Allens Creek Road in Waynesville. Call 456-5959.
