Fire fighters work to extinguish the car fire that occurred on Sleepy Hollow Drive.

A 90-year-old woman died in a single car accident in her driveway near her Lake Junaluska home Thursday afternoon.
Detective Tony Cope from the Haywood County Sheriff's Office said he believes Louise Hodges was backing out of her steep driveway on Sleepy Hollow Drive around 12:30 when she drove off the asphalt and onto the embankment.
"What we believe could have happened is that the leaves were fairly dry and maybe the exhaust or catalytic converter touched them and might have caught the car on fire," Cope said.

Hodges, who had a difficult time walking, could not escape the car.

Waynesville fire fighters extinguished the fire quickly, which had engulfed the car and caught some of the bank on fire, said Waynesville Fire Chief Joey Webb.
Hodges died in the car from injuries sustained from the fire.

Emergency vehicles blocked off the street for several hours following the accident.

The investigation is ongoing, Cope said.
