WAYNESVILLE — Ella Emogene Webb, 81, passed away Wednesday, June 18, 2014, at a local hospital. Born in Haywood County, she was raised in the Lake Junaluska community. She was the daughter of the late Willie Parker and Inez Marcus Smith.
She is preceded in death by her brothers, J.T., Howard, Paul and Clayton Smith; and sisters, Ruth Rogers and Louise Melton.
Emogene is survived by her husband of 65 years, Monroe Clarence "M.C." Webb Jr., of Waynesville; four sons, Dale and his wife, Beverly, of Lawrenceville, Georgia, Danny and his wife, Barbara, of Waynesville, Rick and his wife, Luanne, of Cary, and Joey and his wife, Katrinka, of Clyde; and one brother, Earl Smith and his wife, Beverly, of Crabtree.
Emogene was nurse for over 30 years, working for Haywood County Hospital and Owen–Smith Clinic in Waynesville. Emogene always put her family at the forefront, and her pride and joy was her 11 grand children and 20 great-grandchildren. Her sense of humor and fighting spirit despite adverse health challenges over the last 20 years has been an inspiration to all who knew her. She has always been uplifting to those around her.
A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 21, at First Baptist Church of Lake Junaluska with the Rev. James Huey officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 20, at Garrett Funerals and Cremations in Waynesville, and at other times the family will be at the residence of M.C. Webb.
