Emergency, crisis services available for children

Families who need emergency crisis intervention services have a regional place to turn.

Hawthorn Heights is a nonprofit program of Barium Springs Home for
Children, and serves families in Western North Carolina.

Hawthorn provides a safe, structured environment and teaches psycho-educational skills in areas of self-esteem, self-concept, independent living and building positive relationships.
Hawthorn serves youth under 18 who are runaways, homeless or experiencing family conflict or behavior issues and also offers individual and family counseling.

Youth may refer themselves to Hawthorn. Referrals are also accepted from
parents, mental health and juvenile justice agencies, school and law
enforcement personnel, and social services.
