The numbers are in from the Dixie Beard & Moustache Society's first-ever "hirsute" Homecoming Dance — and they're looking good. All told, just over $600 was raised from the "Enchantment Under the Beard" dance, held Oct. 20 at the Elks Lodge in Waynesville. All of the proceeds went to the Warrior Service Dogs and the Waynesville Elks Children's Christmas

Put into real terms, that means three kids in Haywood County will be receiving much-needed items from the DBMS for Christmas, and  the Warrior Service Dogs will be able to provide training and supplies for a disabled veteran and his/her service dog.

DBMS is a fairly new volunteer organization, open to all guys and gals, bearded or not, and dedicated to helping out in Haywood County. The group's next meeting will be at 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. ...
