'Encounter' — Free 3-day family event is Aug. 12-14
Cornerstone Fellowship Church is hosting an alternative to Vacation Bible School. Families are invited to Encounter, a three-day family event of free fun, games and fellowship.
Daniel Tripp, student pastor at Cornerstone Fellowship Church, said plans for this event have been in motion since March.
“We wanted to provide an alternative to VBS and do something a little different,” he said. We wanted to have a more personalized program rather than a boxed program, and to show that our church wants to meet the needs of the community and culture right where they are. We wanted to go out into the community rather than ask the community to come to a place they’ve never been to before.”
From 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Aug. 12-14, families can gather for free fun, food and entertainment in the recreation park behind Bi-Lo in Waynesville.
Tuesday, Aug. 12, is Kids’ Night. Kids and those who are kids at heart are invited to enjoy an evening of discovery. There will be hot dogs, games, prizes, science experiments, snacks, crafts, door prizes and a photo booth. Kids can take home their special creations as a keepsake. The night will end with a fun and competitive kickball game.
Wednesday, Aug. 13, is Youth Night. Children and teenagers are invited to experience an evening of “ultimate fun.” There will be carnival games, free food, photo booth, cash prizes and an Ultimate Frisbee tournament.
Thursday, Aug. 14, is Family Night. Enjoy a “mountain extravaganza.” Families are invited to bring their lawn chairs and enjoy some local bluegrass music by David Leatherwood and Friends. Take part in a yodeling contest or try pig calling. There will also be a quilt contest, free food, Mountain Heritage displays, games for all ages, story telling and prizes.
All are invited and welcome to attend this three-day event.
