On Sunday, March 30, the membership of Encouraging Word Baptist Church elected its first pastor. In a unanimous vote, the Rev. Michael David Horton was selected as the church’s first full-time pastor. This follows an extensive two-year process conducted by the Pastor Search Team.

The Rev. Horton is a graduate of the University of North Carolina in Greensboro and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest. He also serves as a New Testament professor at Fruitland Baptist College in Hendersonville.

Horton and his wife, Erin, are the parents of three children, Jeremy, Samantha and Elijah. They believe God’s design for their family is essential to building strong homes, churches and communities.

The Hortons will be relocating to Haywood County soon and will begin their ministry at the church on Sunday, June 22.

Encouraging Word Baptist Church is a Southern Baptist congregation located at 664 Sonoma Road, Waynesville. It is a Bible-believing church whose mission is to point people to Jesus Christ.
