Enjoy chicken Thursday, help kidsZaxby’s fundraiser to benefit Kids in the Creek
Zaxby’s has joined Haywood Waterways’ fundraising campaign to benefit their youth education programs. On Thursday, October 24 at the Russ Avenue, Waynesville store, 10 percent of all sales between 5 and 10 p.m. will be donated to help support programs like Kids in the Creek.
Kids in the Creek exposes 8th-grade students to water, how it gets polluted, and what solutions there are to make sure clean water is available to all users. They have been doing it for 16 years and have reached over 10,000 students. It is consistently one of the most memorable experiences students have from 8th grade.
Haywood Waterways’ mission is to protect and improve surface water quality in the Pigeon River Watershed of Haywood County. They are known by community leaders as a valuable resource and credible advisor on resolving water resource issues.
“We work on win-win projects. We find willing landowners who need help to protect their land and investments. In return, we get reduced pollution and better water”, said Eric Romaniszyn, Haywood Waterways’ Executive Director, “We are local folks solving local problems”.
“Having a local business and great restaurant like Zaxby’s supporting us is a testament to the community’s desire for clean water," said Bill Eaker, chairman of the organization’s fundraising committee. “Our streams are critical to grow the food we eat, support local industries, and attract tourism dollars, not to mention the great fishing.”
Haywood Waterways’ has been recognized as North Carolina Water Conservationist of the Year and a national model by the USEPA. They have been very successful at grant acquisition and have helped bring $6.2 million to the County for education and water quality improvement projects.
