Fair Horse, mule pulling contest will be Aug. 24

A special feature at this year’s Haywood County Fair will be a draft horse and mule pulling contest at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, in the Great Smokies Arena at the Haywood County Fairgrounds.

Registration will be from noon to 12:30 p.m. with an entry fee of $10 per team. Teams may be entered in one of four classes: light horses, light mules, heavy horses and heavy mules. Trophies will be awarded to winners in each class.

Horse and mule teams will attempt to pull a dead sled with 500-pound weights added after each successful pull. Also featured at this event will be a parade of horse and mule-drawn equipment.
