Upcoming Events at Blue Ridge Books

Saturday, September 7   3:00 pm   Author Event with Michael Beadle

Michael will show slides and discuss his new book of historical photographs of Canton. This is Michael Beadle’s third Images of America book, having previously published books on Haywood County and Waynesville.  A touring writer-in-residence and award-winning poet living in Canton, North Carolina, Beadle coauthored the bicentennial retrospective Haywood County: Portrait of a Mountain Community and has published hundreds of newspaper articles on the history, arts, and culture of Haywood County. A majority of the images within the pages of Canton have been culled from the photographic collections of the Canton Historical Museum.  Michael is definitely one of the best speakers on the subject of our county’s history and you will not want to miss this event.

Tuesday, September 10   1:00 pm   Mountain Writers Group Meeting with Author Douglas Woodward

The Mountain Writers meet each month at Blue Ridge Books.  The meetings are always free and open to the public.  September’s program will be presented by Douglas Woodward, author of Wherever Waters Flow:  A Lifelong Love Affair with Wild Rivers. In a candid look at his whitewater roots, Woodward takes you back to the time when his paddling skills were still trying to catch up with his enthusiasm for exploring wild rivers.

Saturday, September 14   3:00 pm   Author Event with Karen Kay Knauss

The Thorny Truth and Their Civil War is a book of poetry about the author’s Western North Carolina ancestors during the Civil War. Karen is the great, great, granddaughter of Branch H. M. and Miriam Killian Trull, and John Pinkney and Hannah Warren Meece.  Both families lived in East Fork Township during the Civil War, and many of their descendants currently live in Haywood and neighboring counties of North Carolina.   You will enjoy both her historical research and her poetry.

Saturday, September 21   3:00 pm   Author Event with Jeff Minick

Jeff’s first book, Amanda Bell, is a modern fairy tale about a woman devastated by crushed hopes and a vicious assault who strikes out on a strange new journey, searching for release from self-imprisonment.  Though he now resides in Asheville, Minick lived in Waynesville for twenty-five years, where he and his wife operated the Palmer House Bed and Breakfast and a downtown bookstore. For over ten years, he has also written a book review column for the Smoky Mountain News.
