Fall Food Drying Class

Haywood Cooperative Extension is pleased to announce that Mrs. Lois Snow, Baked Goods Blue Rosette Winner at the 2013 Haywood County Fair, will demonstrate her pie making skills at the fall food drying class Thursday, October 24.
Mrs. Snow, who turned 90 this year, has had personal experience in drying food throughout her life. Her early experiences involved drying foods out of necessity in an era when there were no freezers. Snow later welcomed the modern convenience of a dehydrator. The food drying class, led by Haywood’s Family and Consumer Science Agent Julie Sawyer, will explore drying food as an economical and nutritious alternative to canning and freezing.
In addition to an information session, there will also be hands on activities involving drying apples and beef jerky. The class will be held at the Haywood Cooperative Extension Center from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The cost of the class is $10.
