Fall sports tailgate kickoff party is Aug. 16
The Haywood County School System, on behalf of the Tuscola Boosters Club, Pisgah Athletic Boosters and in conjunction with the Western Carolina University Catamount Club, will hold a new and significant event for Haywood County — the first Haywood County Fall Sports Tailgate Kickoff Party.
The event will take place from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, at “The Imperial” and Smathers Square on Main Street in Canton.
The purpose of the event is to promote the fall sports programs for Pisgah High School, Tuscola High School, as well as Western Carolina University.
The event will begin at noon with the playing of fight songs for various colleges as well as Pisgah and Tuscola High schools. Other events will include a cornhole tournament, half and half, music, tailgate meals prepared by Sid’s on Main, speeches by WCU head football coach Mark Speir and coaches for Tuscola’s and Pisgah’s fall sports.
Additionally, the event will be broadcast live by WPTL 920 AM radio station. A special portion of the event will be “Sheriff Christopher’s Big Gun Run.” A race/run including the cross country teams of Tuscola, Pisgah and WCU will occur from the “Big Gun” in Clyde to the event in downtown Canton.
Proceeds from the event will be distributed to Tuscola Boosters Club, Pisgah Athletic Boosters and the Catamount Club. Tuscola and Pisgah merchandise will be available and sold by the booster clubs.
Financial sponsors for the event are Ken Wilson Ford, The Mountaineer, Champion Credit Union, Stanberry Insurance, Gahagan, Black & Associates Certified Public Accountants, Wells Funeral Home and Event/Reception Center, Haywood Secure Storage, WPTL Radio 920 am, Jonathan Jorstad — SunTrust Investment Services, Smathers & Smathers Attorneys at Law, RCF Construction Company and Hometown Hardware.
