CANTON – Fannie Holland Mason, 94, passed away Thursday, March 9, 2017.

Mrs. Mason was born Sept. 14, 1922 and was the daughter of the late Velt and Hettie Holland. She was the oldest member of Plains United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School and was also a member of the Women’s Society. Mrs. Mason was a dedicated homemaker and was a member of the Haywood County Home Demonstration Club. She enjoyed raising cattle, sewing, gardening and canning the many vegetables that she grew.  She shall be deeply missed by her family and many friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Jack Mason; her brothers, Bill and sister-in-law, Helen, Rick and sister-in-law, Tess, Jim and Bob Holland; a sister, Anna Bell Mann and brother-in-law, Fred; an infant sister, Francis Holland and a son-in-law, Larry Clark.

She is survived by her daughters, Patricia Mason Clark of Penrose and Jackie Mason Shephard and son-in-law, Steve Shephard of Canton; a granddaughter, Angie Clark Bradley (John) of Creedmoor, NC;  grandsons, Chris Clark (Doris) of Brevard and Mason Shephard (Donna) of Canton;  great-grandchildren, Kayla Bradley of Cleveland, NC,  Emily Bradley Ruth (Billy) of Georgetown, Kentucky,  Morgan Clark of Etowah and Jordan Shephard of Canton;  twin great-great-granddaughters, Arabell and Annalyse Ruth;  a sister, Edith Ford and sisters-in-law, Mary France Holland and Betty Holland and also several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 11, 2017 at Plains United Methodist Church. The Revs. Dean Thompson and Zack Christy will be officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will be receiving friends at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Plains Cemetery Maintenance Fund, 2029 Newfound Road, Canton, NC 28716.
