Faye Plemmons Gunter
ASHEVILLE – Faye Plemmons Gunter, a Madison County native, 94, passed away Friday, Aug. 8, 2014. Her most recent residence was Emerald Ridge Rehabilitation Center in Asheville.
Faye was the daughter of the late Joseph M. Plemmons and Martha Justice Plemmons, of Trust, who were store keepers, farmers and postmaster at Trust.
Faye became a member of Lusk Chapel Baptist Church near Trust before graduating from Spring Creek High School. Her membership was transferred during more recent years to Calvary Baptist Church of Asheville.
Faye's husband, W.H. Gunter, fought in the South Pacific during World War II. Faye contributed to the war effort during that period with employment at Martin Aircraft Productions in Baltimore, Maryland, as a parts requisition clerk. After the war she and her husband stayed on the West Coast for a number of years near where he had been stationed. They built a home and started their family there. During succeeding years they returned to the East. Faye became a clothing buyer for Belks Department Stores.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, 20 siblings and their spouses.
She is survived by her son, Robert Gunter and wife, Joanne, and their son, Eric, as well as a great number of nieces, nephews and their children and grandchildren.
Her funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13, in the Sanctuary of Calvary Baptist Church, located at 531 Haywood Road, Asheville, NC 28806. The Rev. Jeff Hayes will officiate. Burial will be in Western Carolina State Veteran’s Cemetery, Black Mountain.
The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the funeral.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church. West Funeral Home in Weaverville is in charge of arrangements.
