FDA finally approves Belvig
For the first time in more than a decade, the Food and Drug Administration has approved a new prescription drug designed for long-term weight loss. Belvig, created by Arena Pharmaceuticals, passed FDA safety standards, and can now be prescribed by doctors to promote weight loss. The FDA will only endorse Belvig for adults, not adolescents, who meet the Centers for Disease Control standards for being overweight, and possess at least one medical complication such as high cholesterol or diabetes. The FDA also advises that the drug should be used in combination with a healthier diet and regular physical activity.
