First Presbyterian preparing for craft fairs
The Presbyterian crafters have been busy for the past several months getting a large variety of handmade goods made for their upcoming craft fairs.
The First Presbyterian Church of Waynesville will be holding craft fairs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12 and 19 at the church.
The crafters have been working since late January to produce knitted and crocheted items, home decorations, handbags, a wide variety of jewelry, holiday ornaments and decorations, wood crafts and toys, original paintings, quilted products, floral arrangements, homemade jellies and pickles, and a cache of other items.
Specialty items will include a crafted red oak blanket chest and a ceramic doll that would delight any little girl or doll collector. There is a tremendous amount of talent in the church and the quality and variety of items which will be offered at the craft fairs reflect how gifted these artisans are.
Each week, a group of women have met at the church to work on both individual and group projects which will be offered for sale at the craft fairs. The group meeting provides an opportunity for sharing and developing creative ideas as well as for fun and fellowship.
There is always something for everyone to do regardless of craft skills. Other women and men have been busy in their homes making items for the craft fair. A special feature of this year's fair will be a decorated Christmas tree skirt which will be raffled off.
Tickets will be on sale for $3 each or two tickets for $5. Only 150 tickets will be sold so arrive early for a chance to win. The winner will be drawn at 3 p.m. Oct. 19.
Part of the proceeds from the craft fairs will be used to support the local mission program at the church. In past years, the crafters have donated money to Grandfather Home for Children, Black Mountain Children's home, Barium Spings Children's Home, Open Door, REACH and other local programs.
The craft fairs will be in conjunction with two large downtown Waynesville events – The Church Street Art & Craft Fair on Oct. 12 and the Apple Harvest Festival on Oct. 19.
