Fisher retires from Navy after 21 years
Chief Information Systems Technician Jennifer Fisher retired July 25, 2014, after 21 years of faithful service in the United States Navy.
Fisher is the daughter of Don and Norma Fisher and is a native of Haywood County. She enlisted in the Navy in September 1993 and attended basic training at Recruit Training Center, in Orlando, Florida. She reported to her first command, Harbor Operations Mayport, Florida, where she was advanced to radioman third class.
In 1996, Fisher reported to Naval Communications and Telecommunications Area Master Station Europe Central in Naples, Italy, and became the first third class to qualify as station duty officer for the Satellite Communications Facility. She advanced to information systems technician second class and then transferred to Naval Communications and Telecommunications Station in Roosevelt Roads, Puerto Rico, where she was advanced to information systems technician first class in 2003.
Fisher then reported to sea duty onboard the USS Labroon (DDG-58) homeported out of Norfolk, Virginia, in October 2004. She then transferred to the USS Gonzalez (DDG-66) homeported out of Norfolk, Virginia, as part of crew swap and DDG Crew Lima.
On the USS Gonzalez deployment in 2005, she earned her enlisted surface warfare specialist designation. In October 2005, she transferred to the USS Stout (DDG-55) homeported out of Norfolk, Virginia, where she continued to participate in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.
Fisher was selected to the rank of chief petty officer in 2006 and became the leading chief petty officer for Radio Central Division.
In April 2008, Fisher reported to Naval Communications and Telecommunications Area Master Station Atlantic detachment Hampton Roads in Norfolk, Virginia. She served as the leading chief petty officer of Communications Security Agency division. It was there she received her Associate of Science degree from Excelsior College. She is currently serving as communications material system advice and assist team lead in Camp Lejeune and has gone on to attain her Bachelor of Science degree from Excelsior College.
Her personal decorations include Enlisted Information Dominance Warfare, Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (two awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (four awards), in addition to various campaign, unit and service awards.
