Rite Aid will offer a flu shot clinic from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26, in the Clyde Central Church Fellowship Hall at 410 Charles St., Clyde. The injections are free with most insurance, according to a Rite Aid representative, and participants must provide their insurance cards.

This is the same service offered at Rite Air Pharmacies, but is being taken to the communities in order to be more convenient and allow a greater number of people to participate. Persons of all groups are susceptible to influenza.

“We are pleased that Clyde Central is the site for this important work,” said organizer Gene Bolden. “I keep seeing that 63 percent of our population does not take advantage of this important opportunity. No one expects to get the flu, but some people, from young people to senior adults, are very ill each year.”

Flu in the workplace cost U.S. businesses more than $10.4 billion each season, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Statistics show that influenza-associated deaths ranged from approximately 3,300 to 49,000 annually between 1977-2007, so a significant concern.

Even healthy people can get the flu, and it can be serious. Everyone 6 months and older should get a flu vaccine, according to the CDC.
