Foundation approves $400k donation for 4th floor hospital renovation

Jul 03, 2013

CLYDE — The Haywood Regional Medical Center Foundation recently approved a $400,000 donation to MedWest Haywood for renovations to the hospital’s fourth floor. The fourth floor is home to the Women’s Care Unit and the Progressive Care Unit. $200,000 of the donation will be made up front with the rest of the funds coming from proceeds of the Foundation’s annual Golf & Gala, which will be held August 27 and August 28 at various golf courses throughout Haywood County.

The vote to fund the fourth floor renovation was unanimous. “This decision took very little time to deliberate,” said Laura Leatherwood, Chair of the HRMC Board. “It fits perfectly with why the Foundation exists; to help grow our hospital. And we support our hospital 100%.” A donation of this size is not new to the Foundation. Probably the most visible and significant project was the Health & Fitness Center, adjacent to the hospital on Leroy George Drive. Over $3 million dollars for this facility was funded by the Foundation. In 2012 the HRMC Foundation donated close to $250,000 in continued funding of the Homestead, MedWest Haywood’s Hospice and Palliative Care facility. In all, the Foundation has given over $3 million to fund The Homestead. Also in 2012, The Foundation gave over $265,000 to help build a new Outpatient Care Center on the campus of MedWest Haywood.   “The board’s mission and function is to promote fundraising in support of the hospital,” said Leatherwood. “It’s mutually beneficial and helps our community in so many ways.”

“We are so grateful for this very generous gift made by the Foundation,” said Janie Sinacore-Jaberg, President and CEO of MedWest Haywood. “We are honored to have such a supportive community and that support is evident by the fundraising power of the Haywood Regional Medical Center Foundation. We are excited to begin work on the much-needed renovation to our fourth floor, and will communicate to everyone as we progress with the project,” said Jaberg.

The Haywood Regional Medical Center Foundation exists to assist and promote charitable giving and philanthropy on behalf of Haywood Regional Medical Center (dba MedWest-Haywood) and to promote fundraising in support of MedWest-Haywood.
