Free art demos offered at Cedar Hill

Cedar Hill Studio in downtown Waynesville will continue to offer free art demonstrations throughout the month.

Patti Dutton, a local fiber artist, will be showing and demonstrating custom knits from noon to 5 p.m.

Chris Amsler, well-known local jewelry artist and metalsmith, will holding a demonstration from 12:30 to 4 p.m. on Valentine's Day, Feb. 14. He will be showcasing his new “Loving Heart” line and will be working on new pieces and answering questions about various techniques and styles of silver and gold-smithing.

Amsler is a master of many different styles and techniques including custom chains and maille, chasing and repose’, forming, forging, keumbu, casting, carving, stone setting, and fabrication to name a few. He will be chasing sterling silver and setting precious stones on Valentine’s Day.

Denise Harris will be demonstrating pottery from noon to 2:30 p.m. Feb. 18. She is a native of Western North Carolina and studied pottery at College of the Mainland on the Texas Gulf Coast.

After living in Texas for 17 years, she returned to the mountains with her family to live her dream.

"I have always had a love for pottery and over the years have developed my own unique style which is a reflection of my heritage and personality," she said. "Most of my pottery is wheel thrown with added sculpting or hand carving giving each piece its breath of life."
