The Waynesville Recreation Center is offering a summer camp for kids called Fun in the Sun.

The camp has been under way since June 11, and will run until Aug. 7. It offers not only a safe place where parents can leave their children during the day, but is a place where fun is almost a guarantee.

Fun in the Sun runs from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. There are slots for up to 40 each week. For members of the rec center, the fee is $75 for the week or $15 a day. For everybody else, it is $95 for the week or $20 a day.

Participating children have many things to do, including field trips, arts and crafts project and planting and managing gardens near the rec center. Also, the kids get to swim in the pool at the center every day from 1 to 3 p.m.

Tarya Hall, youth program supervisor for Fun in the Sun, loves this job and has wanted it for a while.

“I’ve applied for this job twice,” said Hall. “I love kids. They are just so beautiful. That’s why I do this, and I will be doing it again next year.”

Hall said the kids are having a great time over these weeks.

“The kids love it. They don’t want to go home,” she said.
