Garden club awards scholarships

Kyla Jo Farmer and Christina Harvey received $1,000 scholarships from the Waynesville Garden Club at an awards ceremony May 6 at the Lambuth Inn.

Harvey will be attending North Carolina State University.  She will pursue degrees in agriculture and communications.  Kyla Jo Farmer will be attending the University of Tennessee.  She will pursue a degree in agricultural extension education.   Scholarships are presented to Haywood County students who plan to major in horticulture or a related field.

The club will host a luncheon and auction, featuring speaker Kathy Greeley, June 21, at Winchester Creek, to raise funds for scholarships and other community projects.

Waynesville Garden Club is composed of a group of women organized for the purpose of protecting and conserving trees, flowers, shrubs and birds; encouraging civic beauty and roadside beautification; striving towards excellence in horticulture and garden design and cooperating with other agencies to further the interest of horticulture and conservation.  For information, call 452-7398.
