Loving Husband and Father

CANTON — Gary Keith Deaver, age 74, of Max Thompson Road, peacefully entered into his eternal heavenly home on Monday, Feb. 6, 2017, with his loving family at his side.

Mr. Deaver was born June 29, 1942, in Buncombe County to the late Charles C. Deaver and the late Lola E. Singleton Deaver. He was a United States Marine Corps veteran, having served his country with great honor. Gary had resided in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, before returning to Haywood County in 1995 to make his home. While residing in Florida he was employed with AT&T as a fiber optic technician and retired in 1994 with 30 years of dedicated service.

Mr. Deaver was a member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Canton. Gary will be remembered as a man of great courage and a man of many talents. His love for his family will be forever treasured.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Lillian Justice and Martha Blazer; and his brothers, Jack Deaver and Kenneth Deaver.

Surviving are his loving wife of 45 years, Joanne Knight Deaver; his daughters, Rene L. Dicesare and her husband, Marc Dicesare of New York, NY, and Leeanne L. Deaver of Williamsburg, VA; one grandchild, Jasa; sisters, Norma Messer Caudle, Janet Frady and Patricia Chambers; a brother, James “JD” Deaver; and many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life service for Mr. Deaver will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, 2017, at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church. Rev. Jack Holland and Rev. Perry Brindley will be officiating. The family will be receiving friends at the church following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mr. Deaver's memory to ALS Association, North Carolina Chapter, 4 N. Blount Street, Suite 200, Raleigh, NC 27601.
