George Jackson ‘Jack’ Buchanan
DULUTH, GEORGIA — George Jackson “Jack” Buchanan, 85, died Monday, May 5, 2014, at his home in Duluth, Georgia, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Known to friends and family as Buck, he was born in Macon County Aug. 12, 1928. He was the son of the late George Larkin and Dovie Elizabeth Woods Buchanan.
A graduate of Franklin High School, he served in the U.S. Air Force for 20 years and was a Korean War veteran. During his post-military career, he worked for Collins Radio (now Rockwell Collins), Burdick Corp. and Siemens Corp. before retiring in 1997.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Guy Buchanan of Canton, Abraham Buchanan of Cumberland Gap, Tennessee, and G.D. Buchanan of Edgewater, Florida; and three sisters, Cleo Wilson of Asheville, Geneva Arrington of Waynesville, and Buford Davis of Conyers, Georgia.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Aliye Emel Buchanan, of the home; a daughter, Bonny Buchanan Shulse (Steve); and granddaughter Emory Buchanan Shulse of Sandy Springs, Georgia; and two sisters, Hayden Tippett of Detroit, Michigan, and Sally Pittillo of Edgewater, Florida, and Hendersonville.
Services will be held at noon Monday, May 12, at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain.
