CANTON — Geraldine Hannah Ray Holland, 89, passed away Friday, June 14, 2013, at her residence in Vanceboro.
A native of Haywood County, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Roland “T.R.” and Annie Dee Birchfield Ray. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Wiley Holland, who died in 2003; a daughter, Brenda Joyce Holland, who died in 1967; and a grandson, Cody Holland, who died in 2012. She was also preceded in death by six sisters and one brother. She also has two surviving brothers.
Geraldine was a member of Ridgeway Baptist Church. She was a homemaker and loved to cook, sew, garden, shop and spoil her grandchildren. Geraldine also worked at Merita Bread Store for several years and also for Davis Department Store in Candler. After the passing of her husband, she moved to Vanceboro where her daughter, Kim, and her family lived.
She is survived by two daughters, Ann Holland Earley (husband, Vernon-deceased) of Decatur, Alabama and Elizabeth Kim Thorn and her husband, Bob, of Vanceboro; one son, Charles Hoyt Holland, of Canton; six grandchildren, Tina Earley Sparks, Lisa Earley Woods, Benjamin Thorn, Julie Holland, Jon Cory Holland and Melanie Benson; seven great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, June 21 at Ridgeway Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Jack W. Collins officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11:30 a.m. prior to the service at Ridgeway Baptist Church.
The family would like to express heartfelt gratitude to Hospice Nurse Sabrina and especially to her current caregivers, Sarah, Angie, Audry and Rosalyn.
