Gerhard Volker Tauscher
DELAND, Florida — Gerhard Volker Tauscher of Deland, Florida, passed away at age 73 Aug. 15, 2013.
He was a faculty member at Brevard College, teaching German and physical education. In 1970, he received his master’s degree in recreation administration. During 1971 to 1974, Gerhard, known to most as “Jerry,” served as recreation and parks director in Waynesville. While there, he established the recreation department and developed a city-wide cooperative system of using public and private facilities and grounds for parks, swimming pools and many recreational programs. From 1974 through 1983, he served as the first director to plan and develop the 170 acres known as Jackson Park for the Henderson County Recreation Department.
He moved to Orlando, Florida in 1985, where he retired and later moved to Deland, Florida, where he lived his final years enjoying writing, photography, taking care of his pets and wild life.
