The eighth annual Baskets and Bags Bingo will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12 at the Haywood County Fairgrounds. The event is presented by the Catholic Women’s Circle of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and benefits many community agencies.

In the past, the CWC has made donations to agencies including HRMC Hospice, The Open Door, the Community Kitchen in Canton, Good Samaritan Clinic, Haywood Christian Ministry, REACH, KARE, Mountain Projects, Meals on Wheels, Camp Ability and St. John the Evangelist Church’s special needs.

“We could not provide the support these agencies desperately need without the community’s help,” said Ann Simmons, bingo co-chair. “It’s a popular event. In past years, bingo players have lined up at the fairgrounds to be one of 550 attendees — all ready for some bingo.”

Player tickets are available now from CWC members. Players may reserve a table of eight. The cost is $20 for 21 games.

In addition, individual and corporate sponsorships are available for $100.

“A sponsorship donation of $100 will help us increase the amount we can give to local charities,” said Belinda Lowe. “Contributions are tax deductible and sponsors’ names will appear in the program, which is given to 550 guests.”

Prizes at the fun event include Longaberger baskets valued at $1,800 and Vera Bradley bags valued at $1,600. Some of the themed prize baskets include “Haywood’s Finest,” featuring Copper Pot & Wooden Spoon artisan jams, pickles and scone mix; plus “Movie Night;” “Spice Up Your Life;” “Much Needed Coffee Break;” “Kiss My Boo-boo;” and “Note to Self.”

There will be many door prizes and a drawing for a Vera Bradley carry-on suitcase, with a commuter bag (valued at $400); a Longaberger picnic basket with liner, riser and accessories ($200 value); and a Vera Bradley tote, with a Longaberger market basket ($125 value). Tickets for the drawing are $2 each of three for $5 and may be purchased from CWC members or at the event.

For player tickets, see a CWC member or call Karen Conner at 452-0768. Children may attend, but a player ticket must be purchased for everyone entering the fairgrounds building for the event.
