Get your pets fixed for $10 at HS/N
Haywood Spay/Neuter is offering its $10 Fall Fix special from now until Nov. 30.
Kittens can get pregnant shortly after four months and puppies around five months. Delaying spay/neuter impacts a pet’s health and creates unplanned or “oops!” litters, something most pet owners wish to avoid.
“We noticed litters arriving at the shelter somewhat later this year compared to last,” said Connie Hewitt, president. “We hope to prevent the second round of litters that would enter the shelter in October by offering this special now. It’s a lot cheaper to fix your dog or cat now and prevent another pregnancy than dealing with food, vets and finding homes for several puppies and kittens.”
Budget permitting, Haywood Spay/Neuter is offering an incentive for pet owners to get their pets fixed in the fall.
“Taking care of pets now will avoid spring pregnancies,” said Linda Sexton, vice-president. “Unwanted litters without adoptive families usually end up being taken to the shelter all at the same time. This overcrowds the shelter, and many healthy, adoptable puppies and kittens are euthanized because of lack of space or foster homes.”
To take advantage of this special, a pet owner must reside in Haywood County and sign their pets up from noon to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday at the Haywood Spay/Neuter office, located at 182 Richland St., Waynesville.
All owners must show ID and proof of income. This is required as Haywood Spay/Neuter applies to the NC Spay/Neuter Refund Program for financial assistance.
