Sarge’s volunteers helped make the holidays a little less stressful for shoppers by offering gift-wrapping at Mast General Store in Waynesville during December. Donations were collected at the gift-wrapping project to help in Sarge’s Animal Rescue Foundation’s work to save Haywood County dogs and cats from euthanasia.

“We would like to thank Melanne Lester, manager of Mast General Store, for supporting Sarge's Animal Rescue Foundation by letting us use the store lobby again this year,” said Tish O’Connor, head of Youth for Sarge’s and co-coordinator of the gift wrapping volunteer committee.

The organizers are grateful to the volunteers, who donated their time to help with the gift-wrapping project, said project co-coordinator Sue Libera.

With a record number of Haywood County animals being adopted from Sarge’s (775 adoptions in 2013), pre-adoption medical costs for the dogs and cats are rising. To donate or to volunteer, call Sarge’s at 246-9050. Visit
