Gloria V. Sterling
VIRGINIA BEACH, VIRGINIA — Mrs. Gloria Virginia Cage Sterling, 87, of Virginia Beach, Virginia, formerly of Clyde, passed away March 29, 2014, at Pacifica Senior Living Center.
Mrs. Sterling was born in Brunswick, Maryland, to the late Robert A. Cage and Francis Virginia Horine Cage. She was raised in the metro Washington, D.C. area and graduated from McKinley High School in 1944.
While working for the Food and Drug Administration, she attended and graduated from the National Institute of Practical Nursing in 1947 and went to work for Bethesda Naval Hospital where she met her husband Wayne.
Wayne and Gloria were married on July 1, 1957, and resided in Durham until 1986 when they moved to Clyde. Mr. Sterling passed away in 2000 and Gloria continued to live in Clyde until her health declined and she moved to Virginia Beach to be closer to her sons in 2011.
Survivors include her sons Robert Sterling and wife, Cynthia; Richard Sterling and wife, Angie, both of Virginia Beach, Virginia; Ray Sterling and wife, Maritza, of Havelock; daughter Frances Combs of Boone; brother Bob Cage of Hydesville, Maryland; sister Dolores Dowling of Silver Spring, Maryland; grandsons Christopher, Lee and Issac and granddaughters Stephanie and Felicity.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 11, in the chapel of Garrett Funerals and Cremations. Father Larry Lomonaco will officiate and interment will follow at Crawford Ray Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
