Dr. Robert Prince, senior pastor of First Baptist Church Waynesville leads the procession along Main Street in Waynesville, the first of the faithful to carry the cross.

More than 60 Christians, from many denominations, met in solemn procession Good Friday, March 29, for the downtown Waynesville churches' annual cross walk, commemorating Jesus’ walk to the crucifixion.

The participants started at First Presbyterian Church on Main Street with prayer, then walked along Waynesville’s Main Street, to First Baptist Church. The group, deep in reflection, took turns carrying the cross and listening to scripture readings. Participating churches include First Baptist, First Methodist, First Presbyterian, Grace Episcopal and St. John Catholic.

After the walk, Grace Church in the Mountains hosted a soup and bread lunch for all.
