Hancock family contributes to fund

Nov 28, 2012

The family of Betty Hancock have started a permanent endowment with The Fund for Haywood County.

Hancock lived in Lubbock, Texas, before moving to Waynesville. Her grandchildren began the endowment with a gift of $900 in recognition of her 90th birthday. The Hancock family has a tradition of supporting the Community Foundation of Western North Carolina and its affiliates, which include The Fund for Haywood County.

This fund benefits charitable efforts specific to Haywood County and is directed by a board of local volunteers co-chaired by Louise Baker and John Keith. Other members are William Allsbrook, Libba Feichter, Kimberly Ghaussy, George Ivey, Rolf Kaufman, Bruce Kingshill, Christine Malette, Peggy Melville, Jeremy Phillips, Bennie Sharpton, Sarah Wenzel and Kenneth Wilson.
