CANTON — Harold Monroe Rice,  91, of Raleigh and formerly of Canton, passed away  Monday, Feb. 4, 2013, at Universal Health Care in Raleigh.

A native of Haywood County, he was a son of the late Herbert Fanning and Janie Smathers Rice.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Grover Rice.  Harold was a member of Beaverdam United Methodist Church and had been very active in the Men’s Club of the church.  Harold retired from Champion International, with 42 years of service, and was a worker with the C.C. Camp at Cove Creek.  Harold was a Master Mason and a member of the Pigeon River Lodge #386 AF&AM for more than 60 years.
