HART presents 'Prisoner of 2nd Ave'

Coming next to the Feichter Studio at HART as part of the theatre’s Winter play festival, the  Neil Simon comedy hit, “Prisoner of 2nd Ave,” opening March 10.  The play will star HART veterans Lyn Donley and Stephen A. Gonya along with Scott Shanken, Suzanne Tinsley, Jan Welch and Leslie Lang.  . The production is being directed by Wanda Taylor and additional cast members include;

“Prisoner of 2nd Ave.”  The Prisoner of Second Avenue premiered on Broadway at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre on November 11, 1971 and closed on September 29, 1973, after 798 performances and four previews. Directed by Mike Nichols, the cast featured Peter Falk and Lee Grant starring as Mel and Edna Edison, and Vincent Gardenia as Mel's brother Harry.

The production received 1972 Tony Award nominations for Best Play, for Mike Nichols for Best Director, Play, and Vincent Gardenia for Supporting Actor, Play.

Clive Barnes, in The New York Times, wrote that "it is, I think, the most honestly amusing comedy that Mr. Simon has so far given us." Walter Kerr, in The New York Times wrote: "He [Simon] has made a magnificent effort to part company with the mechanical, and his over-all success stands as handsome proof that humor and honesty can be got into bed together."

Performances are March 10 and 11 at 7:30pm and March 12 at 2pm with possible hold over performances on March 17, 18, and 19. Admission is $10 for adults and $7 for students. The Harmons’ Den Bistro will be open for dining before the evening performances and for Sunday Brunch.  Patrons do not have to be attending the performance to dine in the Bistro.
