HART presents 'The Loves of Elaine'

Arts & Entertainment
Feichter Studio at HART
250 Pigeon St., Waynesville

Coming next to the Feichter Studio at HART, a new work from Lyn Donley and C.J. Deering titled The Loves of Elaine. So what happens when your mother passes away in her 90’s and you discover a box filled with love letters from scores of men stretching over decades? You write a play.

The idea for the piece came when Lyn told CJ about discovering a treasure trove of love letters that Lyn’s mother had received from a multitude of men that spanned over 30 years. The letters are filled with passion, love, desire and sadness… and reminded them both of what life and love was like before email and Facebook.

“I had no idea my mother had such a complicated and exciting life” said Lyn.  “After my parents’ divorce, I did meet some of the men in my Mom’s life, but was clueless as to the deep and passion-filled romances she experienced.” While putting this piece together, she and CJ laughed, blushed, and were at times scandalized.

We learn through the love letters and Lyn’s reminiscing how truly unique and fascinating Elaine was: defiantly a woman before her time and literally the captain of her own ship.

Performances are April 7, 8, 14, and 15 at 7:30pm and April 9 and 16 at 2pm. Admission is $10 for adults and $7 for students. The Harmons’ Den Bistro will be open for dining before the evening performances and for Sunday Brunch.  Patrons do not have to be attending the performance to dine in the Bistro.
