Arts & Entertainment
HART Theatre
250 Pigeon St., Waynesville

It is time to begin another season at HART Theatre and this is a special one. HART is celebrating 20 years in the Performing Arts Center at the Shelton House and the first full season in the new Daniel and Belle Fangmeyer Theater. It is the theater’s first season with Harmons’ Den Bistro which has won raves from its patrons. The bistro is open for dinner before evening shows featuring a prix fixe menu, and for brunch on Sundays. Reservations for dinner are strongly recommended.

HART’s season is opening with one of the funniest plays of modern theater, “The Nerd” by Larry Shue. Shue was one of the most promising young playwrights of the 1980’s. “The Nerd” premiered in 1981 in London’s West End and then transferred to Broadway. It quickly became a regional theater smash hit. It was followed in 1983 by “The Foreigner” which became as big a hit Off-Broadway. Shue was getting ready for his Broadway debut as an actor in “The Mystery of Edwin Drood” in 1985, he was killed in a plane crash in Virginia. The theater world felt it had lost one of most promising new playwrights. HART’s production is being directed by Wanda Taylor and features Sarah Lipham, Strother Stingley, Jason Williams, Stan Branowski, Lucretia Bell, Andrew Delbene, and Adam Lentini.

“The Nerd” has performances April 28, 29, May 5, 6, 11 12 and 13 at 7:30pm and April 30, and May 7 and 14 at 2pm. The performance on Thursday May 11 offers special discount admission. .
