HART will hold auditions for 'The Heiress' Sept. 8-9

Aug 20, 2013

The Haywood Arts Regional Theatre (HART) will hold auditions for its October production of the classic drama “The Heiress” at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8 and Monday, Sept. 9 in the Feichter Studio of the HART Theatre, located at 250 Pigeon St. in Waynesville. Directed by Frances Davis, the show has lead roles for adults of various ages and opens Friday, Oct. 25, for a two-weekend run.

"The Heiress" is based on the novel “Washington Square” by Henry Irving and is set in New York in the 1890s. It is the story of a plain, middle-aged woman destined to inherit a large fortune who is being courted by a handsome young man who has squandered his own personal fortune. The play was turned into a film in the late 1940s with Olivia de’Haviland and Montgomery Clift.

Actors auditioning as professionals should come with a prepared monologue, head shot and resume. HART defines professional actors as those with professional credits elsewhere, and whose credits include major leading roles, or B.F.A. theater students at area universities. Actors auditioning as volunteers will be asked to cold read from a provided script.

Anyone interested in working backstage on the production is also encouraged to come by during auditions to sign up.
