Haunted house fundraiser contest to be held
Entry deadline is Sept. 15The Smoky Mountain Sk8way, 19025 Great Smoky Mountain Expressway, in Waynesville, will be hosting a haunted house and haunted house-decorating contest in October. The skateway is combining efforts with local businesses, along with the Balsam Mountain Roller Girls to present the haunted house. This event will be a fundraising event with all proceeds going to help purchase a fire protection sprinkler system for the skating rink, which has been required by the N.C. State fire code.
The haunted house will consist of individual rooms decorated by local “teams,” which can be a local business, organization or a group of family, friends and co-workers representing a charity. Each team gets one room of the haunted house to decorate. The organizers have room ideas or entrants can come up with their own ideas.
The public will vote on the best room and prizes will be awarded to the top three winners. The skateway is accepting applications now, with only 10 teams to be picked. Teams picked to decorate will have their business/organization/charity advertised in the haunted event ads, flyers, Website and Facebook and other promotional opportunities.
The contest rules are that there must be someone 21 and older to lead the team. The team must represent a business, organization or charity. No foul language or vulgar displays will be allowed. SMS has the right to decline, stop and/or cancel any display they feel is inappropriate.
Prizes include a $1,000 advertising package for the business/organization/charity, along with individual prizes for team members, such as skate passes, T-shirts and more. The application deadline is Sept.15. Mail applications to Smoky Mountain Sk8way, 19025 Great Smoky Mountain Expressway, Waynesville, NC. 28786 or email information to info@smokymountainsk8way.com.
The skateway has been providing fun and family entertainment to Western North Carolina for two years and plans to expand to a larger skating rink, as well as a family entertainment center and sports complex. The Sk8way will offer a venue to hold events (sporting and celebratory), a cafe with outside accessibility, a climbing wall, a kids area, mini golf, pro shop, along with an arcade, and ticket redemption counter.
