RALEIGH — The N.C. Department of Transportation has awarded a $945,230 contact to Adelphi Inc. of Warren, Ohio for preservation work on three bridges in Haywood County and one bridge in Henderson County.

The work will include repairing concrete and steel components of the bridges, replacing the bearings, and cleaning and painting the steel bridge components.

Work on each bridge can begin as early as May 15 and must be completed within 135 days of the start date.

The bridges to be preserved in Haywood include:

U.S. 276 over Jonathan Creek near Maggie Valley

U.S. 19/23/74 over Seay Road near Clyde

U.S. 74 over U.S. 19/23/74 near Clyde

This is one of 27 contracts totaling $106.9 million awarded by NCDOT in March for highway and bridge projects across North Carolina. NCDOT awarded the contracts to the lowest bidders, as required by state law. The bids received on the projects awarded came in about 5.3 percent, or $5.9 million, below NCDOT estimates.
