The Haywood Community Band will perform a free concert at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 18 in the Maggie Valley Pavilion next to the Maggie Valley Town Hall on Soco Road. The series of concerts are sponsored by the Maggie Valley Civic Association.

The theme for this concert is living composers, with a program selected and directed by Sarah Cifani. The music includes selections from Les Miserables, “Lincoln Legacy” by Michael Sweeney, “Awakening Hills” by Richard Saucedo, and a medley of suspense themes by soundtrack composer John Williams called “Chillers and Thrillers.”

Concertgoers are invited to bring a picnic dinner, enjoy the fresh air, colorful sunsets and the beautiful summer music with the enthusiastic crowd every third Sunday evening of the month. Members of the concert band all performed in school when younger and now continue to play their instruments for the joy of entertaining the community at these free concerts.

The Haywood Community Band is supported in part by a grassroots grant from the Haywood County Arts Council and the state agency North Carolina Arts Council.
