Haywood County to be represented at sports award banquet

Tuscola’s Morris, Ferguson, girls swimmers, volleyball team and Pisgah girls tennis finalist for top WNC awards

Pisgah’s girls tennis team, Tuscola seniors McKinley Morris and Caleb Ferguson along with the Tuscola girls swim and soccer teams will be representing the school at the 56th Western North Carolina Sports Award Banquet on May 7.
Morris is being honored as a finalist for the Blue Ridge X-Ray Female Student Athlete Academic Award, while Ferguson is a finalist for the Goforth Builders 3A/4A Male Athlete Major Sport in addition to the Darlene and John McNabb Male Athlete of the Year Award. The Mountaineers’ record-setting running back is also nominated for a $1,500 scholarship.
In team sports, the Tuscola girls swim team is a finalist for the Arcadia Farms Inc. 3A/4A Female Team-Olympic Sport, while head coach Erik Melville’s girls soccer team is a finalists for the Home Trust Bank 3A/4A Female Team-Major sport.
The Pisgah girls soccer team are finalist for the Arcadia Farms, Inc. 3A/4A Female Team-Olympic Sport Award.
The WNC Sports Award Banquet is presented by Ingles and will be held at 5:30 p.m. at the Omni Grove Park Inn on Sunday, May 7.
