Haywood County's Honor Guard offers free military funeral honors
Federal Law states all military veterans (excluding ones dishonorably discharged) are entitled to military funeral honors if requested by the family. As a minimum, military honors include the folding and presenting of the U.S. flag to the next of kin and the playing of Taps.
In Haywood County, the Honor Guard is comprised of volunteers from Waynesville VFW Post 5202 and American Legion Post 47. Under the leadership of Commander Rick Strubeck, the Honor Guard will provide free military funeral honors for the deceased veteran when requested by the family.
