Haywood honors its fallen heroes

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5202 in Waynesville hosted a Memorial Day service Saturday at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park.

The ceremony included the presentation of colors by the Tuscola High School's JROTC, a speech by Col. John Grant, Air Force, Commander 108th Scottish Highlanders Honor Squadron and music by Appalachian Deep.

Taps was performed by Ron Rookstool and the gun salute was done by the American Legion /VFW Honor Guard.

Thanks for the nice article and pictures, Jessi. The Memorial Services performed by the Legion (Greenhill Cemetery on Sunday) and the one at Maggie Valley on Monday were also superb services. It was nice to see such a great turnout at all three services. Thank you to all veterans for your service. Something you all can be most  proud. Their families can also be proud of their sacrifices made in supporting their veteran. .
