Haywood Smart Start Free 'Kids Fest' is April 27
The Region A Partnership for Children will celebrates 20 years of Smart Start success at the Kids Fest to be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 27, in the Great Smokies Arena, Haywood County Fairgrounds, in Waynesville. Everything is free.
On the stage will be The Recycling Troll, Angie's Dance Academy (22 years of Reaching for the Stars) performing “Candy Land,” the Clyde Fire Department skit with clowns and puppets, Voices in the Laurel children’s choir, Take the Stage Fairy Tales, Dixie Darlin’ Cloggers, and MusicWorks! Studio of Performing Arts with costumed children performing “Seussical the Musical” and “Little Mermaid.”
Festival goers will find the Activity Corner full of things to do and see, including Smokey the Bear, Maggie Mountain Fitness martial arts demo, Puppy Tales Dogs (children read to dogs), discussion on positive solutions for families, Girls on the Run fun activities, and games.
There will be free snacks donated by local grocery stores and restaurants, including popcorn.
Outside the arena will be free hayrides by Canton’s The Maize, child passenger safety seat hints and training van, Haywood County Rescue Squad ambulance demonstrations, Mission Children’s Hospital Tooth Bus, the Waynesville Fire Department’s Smokehouse, and a place to and have pictures taken with favorite book characters.
The ToothBus®, a dental office on wheels that goes to elementary schools in other WNC counties where children don’t have access to public health dental care, will bgive out free toothbrushes will be given out, and dental assistants will be available to share information about taking care of teeth.
The festival will include more than 50 interactive booths, including face painting, Haywood Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine Group, balloon animals, Head Start, crafts, parent resources, Child Find, games, Haywood Waterways, science and health activities by the Health Adventure Asheville Museum, N.C. Pre-K, HandMade in America, showing children how to knit, pottery painting with Claymates, Transition to Kindergarten, and the Haywood Health Department.
