FFA members from Haywood, Madison, and Mitchell counties gathered recently at the Haywood County Fairgrounds to compete in both truck and tractor driving.

Tuscola High School students Jacob Hyatt and Zachary Ross placed first and second, respectively, in tractor driving.  Allison Rogers, from Pisgah High School, scored highest in truck driving, followed by Noah Ruff from Tuscola.  Jacob Hyatt and Allison Rogers advanced to the state competition in Raleigh.

The truck and tractor driving career development events assess students’ abilities to operate the vehicles in an effective and safe manner. They must negotiate a prescribed course and are scored on safety, time and obstacles.  Tractor driving participants must also back a trailer down a 40-foot alleyway with only 6 inches of clearance on each side.
