The Haywood Waterways Association will host their annual summer picnic from 11:30 am to 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 19. The picnic is open to all members and non-members interested in the rivers and streams of Haywood County. The event will be held at Clyde’s new Rivers Edge Park on Thickety Road. Food and drinks are provided; attendees are welcome to bring something to share. Volunteers are also sought for a river trash clean-up before the picnic; they will meet on site at 10:15 am.

The picnic is an opportunity to catch up on Haywood Waterways and their efforts to protect and improve water for all users. It’s also a great opportunity to visit Clyde’s new Rivers Edge Park. Much of the park is bordered by the Pigeon River and it also has a 1/3 mile walking trail, two playgrounds, multiple picnic shelters, horseshoe pits, and a boat launch.

After the picnic, Haywood Waterways will travel to Graveyard Fields for their next watershed hike. Haywood County is a “headwaters” county and a large part of local water starts in the Graveyard Fields area. Hikers will meet at Rivers Edge Park at 2:00 pm to carpool, or meet at the Graveyard Fields parking lot shortly after 2:30. Refreshments will be provided.

Please RSVP for the picnic and/or the watershed hike by Thursday, July 17 to Christine O’Brien at 828-476-4667 or christine.haywoodwaterways@gmail.com.
